So you’re Beth Evans?
Apparently.
What do you do?
I write, draw, sometimes both, sometimes neither.
Where did you go to school?
I am a community college dropout.
Did you do any art classes in community college?
No, I didn’t well in art classes during high school, so I didn’t pursue any after that.
How did you get started making comics?
I drew all the time during classes.
But how did you gain followers?
So way back in 2011, when Lady Gaga had just released Born This Way, there was much fervor on the internet about the upcoming Hunger Games movies. All I did was paint a few pictures based on the three stills we had of the movie. I carelessly tagged it on Tumblr, and it, well…became a thing. People started following me for the pop culture pieces I worked on. And I branched out a bit more. My first big hit were the Breaking Bad valentines I did for 2012. They got picked up by some media outlets, and I really started gaining momentum. Then I had a big depression in 2014 and didn’t post anything for almost a year. I came back swinging in 2015, opened and Instagram account, and plugged it on my Tumblr. The rest is from there.
Wait, why aren’t you drawing people anymore?
Instagram made it really easy to post every day, and not have to use Photoshop to do it. Also I am so lazy – before I was drafting, inking, painting, scanning, and editing for just one post. I took these weird blob things I made and decided they could be the central focus, because they required much less effort, let me post more often, and could be easily edited in any light. But yeah, mostly laziness.
What kind of materials do you use to draw your stuff?
Cardstock paper, Sharpies, and LePen by Sakrua. Sometimes a pencil and an eraser for trickier projects, although these days (2019-present) I draw on a tablet.
How do you feel about people reposting your work / getting tattoos of it?
It’s fine. The tattoos are really neat.
What about editing it / using it to promote my own shop or sales?
Please don’t.
I’m having (problem) and (personal issue) and I see (doctor), but sometimes (medication) doesn’t help, what should I do?
Sadly I don’t know you personally, and I’m not qualified to give medical advice. Check online for resources, reach out to people in your life, and double check with your medical team about what might help. Things may be hard right now, but feelings aren’t always forever 🙂
What do you do when you’re not making comics and wasting time online?
I am heavily into road cycling, and love every minute I can spend on my bike.
Do you have any plans for the future?
Probably, but finishing up this fake interview with myself is the priority.
It’s done. Thank you Beth.
phew.
